It’s not new to see girls and boys of modern times adapting to the western dress code of jeans and we have become that open minded to even see them wearing it. In fact, Indian culture of wearing salwar suits, sherwanis , sarees , etc by college going students have diminished to such a great extent that people stare at them with a weird look if by chance they wear traditional outfits.
Threat in means of clothes is not the only issue unfortunately. College festivals, dance shows on television, bollywood movies give more emphasis on western forms of entertainment than the Indian traditional music , dance and theatre. The much larger issue than this is the costumes worn by them, which are so revealing that it sometimes makes us quote “why they even had to wear what they are wearing?” Just for high TRP rates, the world is growing so sex- oriented. This is definitely not our culture.
In ancient times and even today we hear our elders telling us “a lady’s vital jewellery is her timidity”, so then where is it today? Indian languages are not valued as much as English is on the professional front. I remember my parents telling me that they never even dared to look into the eyes of their elders. But the youths of today, not only dare to do this but even raise their hands and voice with abusive language. It is a real sad sight to see this kind of change.
Yes! India is now included in the list of developed nations but what’s so much in it to get happy about when we have lost our culture and tradition in the process? I’ m sorry but I don’t consider India as “developed”, I would rather consider it as “lost and mesmerized”. What about you?
